I am really Blessed when I say I had the opportunity to watch Pandit Ravishankar Ji test sitar in the shop of Hiren Roy in Kolkata’s Rasbehari Avenue. His sitar was always carefully handcrafted by the master craftsman. It would be a typical Sunday morning around 9.30 or so. This of course before he migrated to USA, the year sometime early 60’s. Then of course I had the pleasure of listening to him along with Ustad Allaha Rakha & Ustad Ali Akbar at Shanmukhanand Hall in Mumbai.

These French lads were/are onto something. I ordered Harpe Celtique recently, thinking it a companion volume to Stivell's Renaissance, but it seems they've done a fair few remarkable things. I particularly like the pure tones that I'm hearing here. Maybe they get some inspiration from medieval/early music. Or maybe they have a connection with Breton/Celtic music that's stronger than anything that I hear coming from the land of insane leprechauns that I've inhabited since birth and probably will continue to be until....and maybe if I get to a retirement age I'll sit in the open air on a remote Scottish island, hear noises like I'm hearing now, and somehow feel "right then, I think I'm home now", or else i'll vegetate in suburbia with declining health until...

Is the first time in my almost 68 years old, when I'm listening, from so many years, suddenly 3-4 times daily this jewel of Indian music. These ragas helped me to go deeper on the spiritual path, to feel deeper The Vedanta path. I'm sure about the fact that, there, in the divine world, this Rishi named Ravi Shankar is protecting our souls.
